Mavies Round Robin Doubles V
GLTA Small Tournament of the Year 2007 and 2008!!!
Miami Mavericks Tennis Club is proud to present the 5th annual Mavies Round Robin Doubles, a GLTA-sanctioned event
October 11-12, 2008 in Miami, Florida
Entry Deadline and Refund Policy
All entries must be postmarked by September 30, 2008. No telephone or fax entries will be accepted. An entry is not complete until payment in full has been received. Teams will not be entered until both players have registered and paid. No refunds will be issued once the draw has been posted.
Confirmation of Entry and Wait List
Entrants will receive a confirmation, once entry information is submitted in full. Entrants who do not receive a confirmation email are responsible for confirming their status by contacting the Tournament Director. A wait list will be maintained if more entries are received than can be accommodated. Refunds will be made to those whose entries cannot be accommodated.
Tournament Location
Matches will be played outdoors on hard surface at the magnificent Crandon Park Tennis Center on Key Biscayne, Florida which is home to the Sony-Ericcson and the Miami Mavericks Art Deco Championships XIV. Directions to the facility will be available on our website and at the draw party.
Divisions, Draws, and Guidelines
The MRRD will accommodate as many players as feasible, but draw sizes are limited. Below are the targeted draw sizes, although divisions may be re-sized based upon the number of applicants. The MRRD may consolidate draws if an insufficient number register for a particular division. The MRRD may re-assign any entrant to a higher division, if past results justify such a move (if so, you will be notified). A separate women’s draw is not available, however we encourage your participation. Women will be allowed to register for 1 division lower than their current GLTA ranking if they wish to do so. You or your doubles partner may not play in a division lower than what is indicated on the most recent GLTA ranking list for doubles only.
Seeding
Seedings will be determined based primarily on the latest GLTA ranking information available. Special consideration may be given for recent GLTA and/or USTA results and/or USTA rankings.
Schedule
Match play will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008. All semi’s and finals will be played on Sunday, October 12, 2008. Please make your travel plans accordingly. It will be the player’s responsibility to verify match time of the posted draws. Draw times will be available at the draw party, and on both the www.mmtchome.com and www.glta.net websites.
Match Format
Early round matches will be played in a round robin format. Based upon a full draw, all doubles teams will play a minimum of 3 matches (2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday morning). Teams in Divisions A, B, and C will be placed in a group of 4 teams with the winner of each group advancing to the semifinal round. Teams in the Open Division will also be placed in a group of 4 teams with the top 2 teams from each group advancing to the semifinal round. In the event of uneven team numbers, the tournament director will have the discretion of utilizing the criteria of number of games lost by each team in determining advancement to the semifinals. All matches will be the best two out of three sets with regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at 6 games all.
Rules
USTA/GLTA Rules and Regulations will be used. Players must report to the Tournament Desk at least 15 minutes prior to their match time. Once a match is called, the USTA 15-minute default rule will apply. A five minute warm-up will be enforced. In the event of a weather-related delay, changes in location and/or format may be implemented when play resumes. All efforts will be made to apply changes consistently from round to round.
Lodging
There will be no official host hotel for this event. Hosted housing will be available on a very limited basis and it will be first come, first served. Do not delay if you are requesting to be housed. Please contact the Tournament Director to request housing or if you need suggestions on where it would be appropriate to stay.
Banquet
No rubber chicken here! We are planning a Barbecue Hoedown Extravaganza with great food and delightful company. It will be held directly at the tournament site following match play on Saturday starting between 4:30 - 6 p.m. Additional guests are welcome for $15.00 each. Shower facilities are available on-site.
Miscellaneous
In an effort to provide a fun, but affordable tournament to all participants there will be no tournament hat, shirts, or player bags.
